Mini Summer Camp

at Shippensburg Public Library
June 21-23, 2017
Wednesday thru Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
The camp is for students going into the 3rd through 8th grade in the fall of 2017. This fun and engaging camp designed to help students increase their love for and skill in writing and illustrating. The camp provides a supportive environment where kids enjoy the creative process.
Featured instructors are: Matt Novak, Kive Sutton, Floyd "SuperReader" Stokes, Sysha Irot, and others.
Cost: For all three days:
- $100 by March 1 (Early bird registration)
- $125 after March 1
- $135 after June 1
Cost includes: lunch daily with morning and afternoon snack, camp T-shirt, writing and drawing supplies, and a book by one of the authors or illustrators. Maximum number of campers is 50.
Central PA Writers and Illustrators Summer Camp is a program of The ALC which is a non-profit organization. The mission of the ALC is to partner with community-based organizations and other institutions with programs targeting educational enhancement and development for elementary-aged students.

About the Instructors
The authors and illustrators below will be teaching the classes daily with assistance from area school teachers.
Floyd Stokes is the founder and executive director of the American Literacy Corporation (ALC). He has written over 20 books. He was awarded an honorary doctorate of humanities from Central Penn College. In 2010, he read to children in all 50 states.
Sysha Irot has been Director of Youth Services at Shippensburg Public Library since 2012. She started working for the library in 2009 as Literary Lunch Facilitator. She enjoys sharing a love of reading and celebrating stories and poems in creative ways!
Kiva Sutton has been a middle school English teacher at Susquehanna Township Middle School for the past 8 years. She received her bachelor's degree from Temple University and her teaching certification from Millersville University. She has a master's degree in reading and literacy from Ashford University. She is an avid YA novel reader and loves sharing and discussing books with her students. She loves hiking and the great outdoors and can be found on the weekends on the Appalachian trail with her family.
Internationally recognized children's book author Matt Novak has been writing and illustrating picture books for more than 25 years. Among his many titles are Little Robot, The Last Christmas Present, No Zombies Allowed, and Twelve Snails to One Lizard (A Reading Rainbow Book). His books have garnered many awards including School Library Journal's Best Book of the Year for Mouse TV and the International Reading Association's Children's Choice Award for Newt. Matt has also worked for Disney Studios. While at Disney, he worked on such films as "Rescuers Down Under" and "Beauty and the Beast".
