Ron Claiborne retired in September 2018 after 32 years with ABC News as a correspondent and more recently news anchor of the weekend Good Morning America. He has traveled to more than 40 countries covering stories including Iraq, Afghanistan, China, Cuba, and countries in Africa, South America and Europe. Claiborne is an Emmy Award winner and he was an Ochberg Fellow with the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, affiliated with the University of Washington.
Since his retirement, he spent two months traveling around the world including volunteer projects in Tanzania with Global Volunteers and at a wildlife refuge in Entebbe, Uganda. He currently volunteers as a “homework helper” to 1-4 graders at the Little Sisters of the Assumption Community Center in East Harlem, as a reading volunteer with Harlem Village Academy, as a volunteer writing teacher with Harlem Educational Achievement Fund after-school program, and delivers meals for Meals on Wheels. Ron teaches conversational English to recent immigrants as part of New York City's We Speak NYC program.
Mr. Claiborne earned an MS in journalism in 1975 from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He received a BA in psychology from Yale University in 1974. He is a native of San Francisco, Calif., and grew up in Oakland, Calif., and Los Angeles and lives in New York.
